![]() My main point is that I am surprised that I gained about 300 points (the average beginner has a rating of 1000 if I am correct) with only a few hours of training. (Chess Tempo does have end game problems, but I figured out that in my case, they are not worth doing since you must be a good opening/middle game player in order to stand a chance during the end game, otherwise one will have an intractable material/positional disadvantage.) In other words, I am not a typical chess player, and typical chess players include over forms of study rather than solely solving tactics problems as a part of their training. ![]() Perhaps the Chess Tempo ratings only apply to typical chess players who understand openings, end game, and position play. My play would probably be weak on those aspects of play, and I would be at a disadvantage before I am able to exploit the tactical motifs. I only solved Chess Tempo problems, so it is likely that my rating is inflated, since I barely grasp the rudimentary aspects of openings and end game theory. I only did about 1700 problems/ 30 hours of training and my rating in 1300. I've only played two games of chess in my life, and the last one was like seven years ago.
